Dr. Chien's research focuses on whether performance incentives (in the form of pay-for-performance, public reporting, and payment systems)
- are effective;
- improve the quality of care provided to children and adults, and vulnerable populations (i.e., the medically complex, minorities, and the socially disadvantaged);
- can eliminate healthcare disparities;
- are associated with unintended consequences.
