CTREC operations
|
|
The Clinical and Translational Research Executive Committee (CTREC) has adopted a Charter that outlines its goals and responsibilities. In order to facilitate communications with the CTREC and to clarify the committees operations the following should be noted:
|
|
- CTREC will issue requests for proposals (RFPs) twice/year for pilot project funding. The RFPs will outline the requirements for submissions and the amount of funding available but we expect these to be in the range of $50-100 K total direct costs for each project. These pilot type projects are peer-reviewed. Administration of these grants is through the Clinical Research Program and Translational Research Program and the Office of Research Administration (ORA) offices. These projects will be organized into:
- CTREC will consider larger, department-initiated requests for matching funds for start-up recruitment packages for faculty doing clinical and translational research on an ad hoc basis. The procedures are outlined in the CHB Faculty Recruitment Guidance document available on the ORA Website and roughly parallel the procedure utilized by the RRRC for basic scientists.
- The CTREC will issue RFPs for larger proposals on an ad hoc basis which will foster development of areas within the strategic initiatives of the institution in the areas of translational and clinical research.
- The CTREC will support infrastructure for clinical and translational research such as the Clinical and Translational Study Unit (CTSU) and other institutional cores on an ongoing basis. The financial support of these centers or cores will be accomplished by detailed proposals once/year from the relevant director of the core and the CHB representative to the Harvard Catalyst. The proposals should include a detailed outlined of the goals of the core or infrastructure, projected usage, other sources of funding, future plans for funding and a detailed budget.
- The CTREC will support the Clinical Research Program and the Translational Research Program based on detailed proposals submitted for review to the committee. This support will include existing programs and new programs that are deemed appropriate for support from an institutional standpoint.
- The CTREC will support junior faculty fellowships in clinical and translational research (currently 4 at $50,000/year for two years; with 2/4 restricted to faculty with family responsibility or underrepresented minority in medicine). The RFPs will be posted in February of each year. The recipients will be selected in the spring by a committee composed of members of the Awards committee, the RRRC, the CTREC, and other investigators.
- The CTREC will provide matching support faculty in-house sabbaticals for mid-level faculty (Assistant and Associate Professor) of limited duration (4-6 months) for faculty working in specific areas of translational and clinical research. Such sabbaticals are outlined on the CTREC website.
- The CTREC will provide recommendations to the hospital management for allocation of space for use in clinical and translational research. Requests include:
- recruitments (see point 2 above)
- annually based on a review of existing programs and institutional metrics.
- Procedures will include a web-based request for space. The Vice-President for Research Administration will provide the committee with current space occupancy data and information on established metrics of clinical research productivity (as outlined fully in the Clinical Research Strategic Plan Recommendations from 2006).
