| Research has shown that six weeks of a pre-season conditioning program can significantly decrease serious knee injuries. |
In January 2006, Drs. Martha Murray and Jonathan Rosen developed an ACL injury prevention workshop. The workshop, co-hosted by the Division of Sports Medicine, and CIMIT, was provided at no cost to coaches and trainers. This is the first in a series of collaborative efforts between physicians, athletic trainers and physical therapists to help reduce knee injuries in young athletes.
A major goal of these workshops is to teach coaches and athletic team trainers how to incorporate an injury prevention program into their pre-season regimen.
In conjunction with orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists from Children's;
Sports and Physical Therapy Associates, and
JumpStart Physical Therapy have successfully modified this program to accommodate the needs of the middle and high school athlete. This program focuses on strengthening, flexibility, and conditioning as well as balance work - features found to be important in significantly reducing serious knee injuries in collegiate athletes.
