Research Interests

Over several years we have developed a research program with two complementary foci:

1. Investigation of patterns of antibiotic use in community practice, and interventions to improve appropriate prescribing;
2. Assessment of changing pneumococcal serotype and resistance patterns, and their relation to population genetics of this organism.

Work in both of these areas will continue under a recently funded NIAID (Grant # R01 AI066304-01A1).

Dr. Finkelstein also co-Directs the Harvard-wide Pediatric Health Services Research Fellowship Program. This program funded by two T32 training grants (T32 HS 0063-10 & T32 HP 10018-08) trains 12 fellows each year, from a range of specialties in research methods. The fellows conduct mentored research on quality, cost, and access to care as well as a range of clinical and translational research questions. Fellows completing a concurrent clinical fellowship have joint mentorshop from this program and their sponsoring division.
