Research Interests
Dr. Lightdale attended Princeton University as an undergraduate, and received her M.D. at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. She completed her residency in pediatrics at the University of San Francisco, California and the Harvard Medical School Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition in Boston. Following residency, Dr. Lightdale was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship at the UCSF Institute for Health Policy Studies. She has also completed the Health Services Research Fellowship at Harvard Medical School, and obtained a Master's Degree at the Harvard School of Public Health.
As an Assistant in Pediatrics at Children's Hospital Boston, Dr. Lightdale has focused her patient-centered research on investigating the safety and effectiveness of diagnostic and interventional gastrointestinal procedures for children. In May 2003, she was awarded a 4-year NIH Mentored Career Development Award to study the relationship between sedation for endoscopy and patient safety. Dr. Lightdale has also received a 2003 Harvard University Risk Management Foundation Patient Safety Award to systematically evaluate new electronic monitoring modalities for children receiving procedural sedation.
