Research Interests

The Goldmann research group applies the principles of clinical epidemiology to the study of clinical outcomes and in particular to the control of nosocomial infections that are among the most frequent, serious, and costly adverse outcomes of hospitalization. Dr. Goldmann has also used infection control as a model for quality assessment and improvement in developing countries. He has been active in development of quality indicators, particularly development and validation of surveys that measure parental perceptions of the quality of inpatient and ambulatory care. Current projects evaluate the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of ward-based clinical pharmacists and computerized physician order entry in reducing errors and adverse events. Dr. Goldmann is a co-investigator for the Harvard Centers of Excellence for Patient Safety Research and Center for Patient Safety in Neonatal Care funded by AHRQ and mentor for Dr. Lightdale in outcomes research in pediatric endoscopy.
