Resources and Environment

The Harvard Program is based in the GI Cell and Developmental Biology Laboratories and in the Pediatric GI and Nutrition Division at Children's Hospital Boston. Because of this, the training program utilizes both clinical and laboratory resources.

Children's Hospital is located directly on Harvard Medical School's campus on Longwood Avenue in Boston. The few square blocks around the campus contain a remarkably dense concentration of research scientists and clinicians. Located in this area are Harvard Medical School (HMS), Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH), Countway Medical Library, and over 20 Harvard-affiliated hospitals and research institutes including Harvard Institutes of Medicine, Dana-Farber Cancer Center, Joslin Diabetes Research Center, and Center for Blood Research. New research towers at Children's Hospital and at Harvard Institutes of Medicine opened in 2003. The broad support for the training program by faculty in multiple departments throughout HMS underscores the rich opportunities for cross-fertilization and inter-departmental contacts in our program structure.

Shuttle buses connect the medical school campus and Harvard University's main campus in Cambridge and run every 30 min.

The GI Cell and Developmental Biology Laboratories at Children's are described on separate pages.
