Greetings.
We welcome your interest in the Harvard Medical School Fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition.
The fellowship program is based at the Harvard affiliated Children's Hospital Boston, which is one of the few world renowned free-standing pediatric hospitals entirely dedicated to the care of children. Children's Hospital Boston is located directly on the campuses of Harvard Medical School and School of Public Health, and it is adjacent to the Harvard Institute of Medicine and over 20 other academic hospitals and research institutions.
The clinical and research environments at Children's are superb. Academic clinicians and investigators from Children's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Harvard Institutes of Medicine, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Center for Blood Research, Harvard School of Public Health, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Brigham and Women's Hospital are represented on our research faculty.
We aim to train the future leaders in the field of Academic Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition. Our graduates will display expertise in clinical medicine and outstanding accomplishments in original investigation. We are seeking applicants who wish to develop a career in academic medicine through the development of independent programs in either basic or patient-oriented scientific inquiry or innovative approaches to medical education and health care delivery.
Our clinical programs provide sub-specialty training of the highest quality in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition. We have established several subspecialty clinical programs, including Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Celiac Disease, Liver and Small Bowel Transplantation, Intestinal Failure, Hepatology, Invasive Endoscopy, Pediatric Nutrition, and Gastrointestinal Motility.
Our basic research programs (including the Physician-Scientist fellowship curriculum) focus on molecular cell and developmental biology of the intestine, mucosal immunology, and microbial pathogenesis. Our clinical research programs (including the Clinician-Educator fellowship curriculum) focus on clinical trials and outcomes research, as well as gastrointestinal and nutritional epidemiology. Further, they concentrate on training in medical education, health policy, health-care systems analysis and management, outcomes measures, and quality improvement. We have forty NIH-funded independent investigators on our research faculty, representing an annual research base of over $10,000,000.
This website provides a comprehensive view of our fellowship program. If after visiting this site, you have specific questions or special interests that require additional information, please call me directly. We welcome your inquiries. We encourage applications from minorities.
The application and interview process will provide you with an opportunity to visit us and to discuss the program with our clinical and research faculty, our current fellows, and with me directly. This is an outstanding environment. The Boston medical and scientific community offers numerous possibilities for superb training in basic and clinical research. I hope you consider the Harvard program, and I look forward to speaking with you.
