Welcome to The Academy at Boston Children's Hospital!

Mission Statement
The Academy at Children's Hospital's mission is to foster the continuous improvement of teaching and learning at BCH through its support of educational leadership and innovation.

The Academy at Boston Children's Hospital was created to:

  • promote excellence and innovation in teaching and medical education
  • offer support to medical educators in the form of: seminars and workshops, print and electronic resources
  • advance assessment programs in medical education, including peer assessment
  • facilitate the mentoring of junior faculty
  • promote interdepartmental and multidisciplinary educational programs
  • develop materials for national/international dissemination
  • foster recognition of BCH teachers locally and as national/international leaders

2012-13 CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The CHB Academy accepts applications for scholar members once a year, although additional applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with approval of the director. Scholar membership is contingent upon the proposal of a feasible medical education project. Trainees, with an interest in medical education and who will be at Boston Children's Hospital for at least the next academic year, are encouraged to apply. Mentor members need not have their own medical education project, but must commit to mentoring scholars.

Benefits and Responsibilities of BCH Academy Membership
Benefits of membership in The Academy at CHB include:

  • access to mentoring
  • opportunity for networking and interactions with clinical, basic and translational faculty
  • workshops/seminars/retreats
  • resource groups
  • access to HMS Academy events and resources
  • important addition to CV

Responsibilities of scholar membership in The Academy at BCH include:

  • make progress toward completion of the project proposed in your application
  • submit yearly progress reports to the Academy at BCH Board
  • share knowledge and ideas with other members of The Academy at BCH and the community of medical educators at Boston Children's Hospital
  • mentor other medical educators, especially in your Department (Division)
  • keep your Department (Division) informed regarding issues and events relevant to medical education
  • encourage interested faculty to join the Academy at BCH participate actively in Academy at BCH events (seminars, retreats, meetings, etc.) whenever possible

Continued membership is contingent upon Academy Board approval of yearly progress report on educational project and scholarship, or mentoring.

Announcment from Harvard Medical School

The Academy at Harvard Medical School is pleased to announce a Request for Applications for two-year fellowships in medical education research for the Fellowship Period September 1, 2012, to June 30, 2014. The Academy Fellowship in Medical Education Research provides educators with opportunities to develop the expertise and skills needed to advance academic careers in medical education and medical education research. Clinical fellows or surgery residents who are beginning the research portion of their fellowship/residency are eligible for this fellowship.
Learners participating in the Fellowship will: develop analytical and research skills in medical education; acquire working knowledge of key theories and methods to carry out rigorous research in medical education; complete one major group project and one individual project related to medical education.
APPLICATIONS DUE: 5 PM Friday, June 8, 2012
