To facilitate the career advancement and satisfaction of Harvard Medical School (HMS) faculty at Boston Children's Hospital, fostering careers of all junior faculty, and increasing leadership opportunities for women and minorities

Strategies for Applying for BCH Research Grants (OFD, CTSU, TRP)

This workshop will assist faculty in understanding BCH fellowships available to
junior faculty: OFD Career Development Fellowships-Basic and Clinical Translational
Research;CTSU Clinical and Translational Research Grants; Translational
Research Program Awards. Topics will include how to decide which grants are best for
your research and position at BCH, the process for applying, and the elements that
contribute to a great proposal.

Expert Strategies for Helping Your Child Overcome Fear, Stress, and Anxiety

Donna Pincus is an Associate Professor and the Director of Research for the Child and
Adolescent Fear and Anxiety Treatment Program at Boston University. In addition to her
website, The Child Anxiety Network (http://www.childanxiety.net), she recently published
Growing Up Brave. Intended for parents, the book looks at parenting techniques for
reducing anxiety and practical ways to help kids deal with stress and fears. Her Library
Lunch Topics presentation will focus on her research on fear, stress and anxiety in
children and will cover some of the practical strategies listed in the book.

Leadership: Becoming a More Effective Leader
Speaker: Vincent Chiang, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics
Friday, January 18, 9 - 11 AM, Karp 12 Conference Room
Could you be a more effective leader in your clinic, lab, committee, or program?
This new 2 hour seminar on leadership will emphasize the approaches and skills that
faculty need to better lead teams and initiatives at Children’s and beyond. We will first
explore those personal, inner qualities that ultimately define our leadership style and
understand the importance of developing these qualities in becoming a successful leader.
We will then shift our focus outward to see how understanding motivation and influence
can improve our ability to lead others.
CME credit available to faculty.

Getting Your Clinical Research Funded
