Research Overview
Lisa Scharff's research is focused on the assessment and treatment of chronic pain in children and adolescents. As a psychologist, she is primarily interested psychological and behavioral factors involved in the exacerbation and persistence of pain and disability. She also conducts trials of biobehavioral pain management strategies such as biofeedback and hypnosis.
The specific goals of Dr. Scharff's research are to:
- Identify psychological, behavioral, and family characteristics in pediatric chronic pain patients that are associated with functional disability and exacerbated pain.
- Determine the efficacy of nonpharmacological treatments in chronic pain and pain-related disability in pediatric populations.
- Develop a targeted intervention strategy that is tailored to the individual needs of the pediatric chronic pain patient.
About Lisa Scharff
Dr. Lisa Scharff received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the State University of New York at Albany. She completed her training through an internship at the Mesa Vista Hospital in San Diego and as a Research Specialist IV at at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr. Scharff is a member of the American Psychological Association, the International Association for the Study of Pain, the Society of Pediatric Psychology, and the American Pain Society.
