Ben Read joined the Beggs' Lab in 2008 after receiving his B.S. from Boston College. Working under Michael Lawlor, MD, PhD, Ben is investigating the behavioral and pathological characterization of a mouse colony induced with X-linked Myotubular Myopathy (XLMTM1). This is a non-progressive disorder that causes muscle weakness, hypotonia, and respiratory insufficiency both neonatally and in early life. The goal of the project is to track disease phenotype and ultimately replace the myotubularin gene.
