Amplatzer Device Opening Ex Vitro

Amplatzer Septal Occluder is a self-expandable double disk device made of Nitinol wire mesh. The device is manufactured in a variety of sizes. The disks are joined by a connecting waist that corresponds to the diameter of the defect. The left atrial disk (right side of picture) has a larger diameter than the right atrial disk. Polyester patches are placed in each disk and the waist to aid in occlusion of the shunt.
