Boston Children’s Hospital is among the top pediatric research centers in the world, and our research program includes both laboratory scientists and clinical researchers.

Our Thyroid Program continues to conduct and publish studies that increase understanding of childhood thyroid nodules, thyroid cancer, and thyroid function. Below are some of our important research and academic contributions:

Thyroid nodules and cancer

  • Most thyroid nodules in children are discovered by the patient or a family member, or by a doctor at an office visit. Nodules that are discovered by the patient or a family member tend to be larger than those found by a doctor.
