The Telehealth Program supports a variety of initiatives throughout the Boston Children’s network with activities that fall into three main categories:
- Consultations—Our physicians often serve as subspecialty consultants to physicians and families in need of treatment advice throughout the world. Telemedicine, telehealth and medical-related apps and technologies are altering the nature of these medical encounters. They’re being used to instantly connect providers in different locations, improving patient-provider communication and empowering patients through better access to information.
- Patient care—When used appropriately, innovative telemedicine technologies may help to more efficiently utilize health care resources and decrease cost without sacrificing safety and patient satisfaction. One such example is the delivery of health care via telemedicine, using technologies that allow the health care provider and the patient to feel as if they were present in the same location.
- Education—Boston Children’s Hospital physicians and researchers are committed to sharing their expertise and providing education to pediatric providers, caregivers, families and patients throughout the world. Communications technologies support distance learning, the delivery of real-time and on-demand interactive content to individuals and groups who are not present in a traditional setting such as a classroom.
