As a world leader in treating both acute and chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) and other inherited and acquired platelet function disorders, the Platelet Function Disorders Program at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center provides comprehensive care for children and adolescents with these conditions.
Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s is an integrated pediatric hematology and oncology partnership between Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital. We offer, in one specialized program, the full spectrum of services that are needed for diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care of even the rarest and hard-to-treat conditions.
Members of our Platelet Function Disorders team are active participants in the Center for Platelet Research Studies, an internationally recognized multi-institutional research organization, and a leader on ITP research. We are also members of the North American ITP Registry, the International Splenectomy Registry, and the International Childhood ITP Registry, all of which help clinicians better understand the long-term course and outcomes of these diseases.
Our treatment team, led by the foremost authority on platelet research, includes hematologists with expertise in treating pediatric platelet function disorders and subspecialists, nurses and social workers who have extensive familiarization with these illnesses.
