Boston Children's Optimal Weight for Life (OWL) Program is actively involved in the development of novel dietary approaches and progressive clinical protocols to treat childhood obesity. Below are studies that seek to improve the treatment and ongoing management of overweight children and adolescents. These studies are no longer recruiting, but we encourage you to check back for future participation opportunities.

For 18 to 35 year old men and women

  • Do you drink at least one soda, sports drink or fruit punch every day? Are you a healthy 18-35 year old?
  • This 12-month study investigates the effect of beverages on weight and cardiovascular disease risk.
  • You would get: Beverage deliveries to your home and American Express gift cards worth up to $300

Think AHEAD: A Healthy Eating And Drinking Study
For 12 to 17 year old adolescents

  • Are you 12-17 years old? Are you overweight?
  • This 6-month study investigates the effect of different foods and beverages on weight loss.

ACES: A Cooking and Eating Study
For 13 to 21 year old overweight females

  • Are you a 13-21 year old young woman? Do you have irregular periods?
  • This six-month study investigates the effect of two different diets for treating polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in adolescents and young adults.
  • You would get: Weight loss program, individual sessions with a dietitian, cooking workshops with an executive chef and an American Express gift card for $100
