Contact the Liver Transplant Program

Supporting your child through transplant can be frustrating, tiring, surprising and even joyous at times. But it's almost never easy. For that reason, we believe strongly in “support for the supporters.” We encourage you to take advantage of the services provided here at Boston Children's and by regional and national support groups.

It's important for your child to maintain as full an academic and social life as possible throughout the transplant process. We encourage visitors during long hospital stays and offer a transplant-specific Back to School Program to help your child, his peers and teachers make a smooth transition back to life in the classroom. Ask your Coordinator or Child Life Specialist for more information.

Center for Families

The Center for Families at Boston Children's helps every family find the information and resources they need to understand their child’s medical condition and take part in their care.

Chaplains at Boston Children’s represent a variety of faiths, including Islam, Judaism, Protestantism and Roman Catholicism. They are available 24 hours a day to offer spiritual and emotional support to your child and family. Sensitive consideration is given to your family’s religious tradition and primary language.

Back to School Program

The Pediatric Transplant Center’s Back to School Program, a joint effort between Boston Children’s Hospital Boston and Dana-Farber Cancer Center, provides individualized support for students returning to school after a transplant.

The program addresses common concerns that children and their families have about returning to the classroom. The Back to School team, consisting of a Child Life specialist and pediatric transplant nurse, develop a personalized visit with the child, family and members of the school system. Programs are customized for the child’s age and development level, the school population and setting.

National and regional support groups

There are many organizations dedicated to providing information, support and financial help to transplant recipients. We encourage you to get as much information as possible. For information on financial resources, please check out the financial assistance page.
