Immunology Program Overview
The Immunology Program at Boston Children’s Hospital evaluates and treats children with various types of immune system disorders. We view educating each patient as one of our most important goals. With each patient and family, we discuss the basis of immunodeficiency and the possibilities for avoiding infection.
Unique diagnostics and testing
In addition to all standard measurements of serum immunoglobulins and antibodies, our clinical laboratories provide sophisticated and ever growing panels of flow cytometry to enumerate lymphocyte subpopulations, as well as functional tests of lymphocytes and neutrophils.
Clinical research and innovation
The Immunology Program conducts clinical trials to evaluate promising new approaches to the treatment of immunodeficiency disorders, including studies on the pathogenesis of atopic dermatitis (eczema) and the efficacy of purified C1 esterase inhibitor in hereditary angioneurotic edema, also known as Quinke’s disease.
