Dr. Hay received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry from Harvard University and her MD from Columbia University. She completed her residency training at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics. She is interested in Health Services Research and plans to pursue a Master's degree in Public Health.
Dr. Kalish completed his undergraduate studies at Johns Hopkins University where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Health. He obtained his MD from Harvard Medical School and trained as a pediatric resident in the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics. He is entering the fellowship on the accelerated research pathway, and his research interests focus on brain metabolism during development and injury.
Dr. Monthe-Dreze graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Psychology from Swarthmore College, and obtained her MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. She completed her pediatric residency training in the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics, and she worked as a neonatal hospitalist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is interested in clinical and translational research that focuses on neonatal interventions and outcomes.
Dr. O’Connell completed her undergraduate studies at Merrimack College where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry. She received her combined MD/PhD degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, and completed her pediatric residency training at the University of Vermont. She completed a fellowship in Pediatric Allergy and Immunology at Boston Children’s Hospital, and spent a neonatal hospitalist year at Massachusetts General Hospital. Her research interest is in Developmental Immunology.
Dr. Parker graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and obtained her MD from St. George’s University of London. She completed her pediatric residency in the Massachusetts General Hospital training program, and she is interested in medical education and clinical research.
Dr. Smith-Raska graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology, and he received his MD and a PhD in Immunology from Columbia University. He completed his pediatric residency training at the University of California, Los Angeles on the Physician-Scientist path, and he is interested in Genomics with a focus on the role of noncoding parts of the genome in disease.
Dr. Angelidou graduated with an MD and a PhD in Immunopharmacology from the University of Athens, Greece. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the laboratory of Dr. Theoharis Theoharides at Tufts University School of Medicine, and pursued her pediatric residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern. She has published extensively in the field of Immunology and is interested in continuing basic science research centered on innate immunity and neurodevelopmental outcomes.
Dr. Bell completed her undergraduate studies at Dartmouth College where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Biophysical Chemistry. She obtained her MD from the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Bell completed her pediatric residency training at Children’s Hospital and Research Center in Oakland where she also served as Chief Resident. She is interested in clinical and translational research pertaining to fetal and neonatal growth, nutritional interventions, and outcomes.
Dr. Chou is a graduate of the National Taiwan University where he obtained his MD, and the University of Cincinnati where he obtained his PhD in Cancer and Cell Biology. He completed his pediatric residency training at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He has published extensively in basic science journals and is interested in neural stem cell Biology with a focus on Epigenetics.
Dr. Mehta graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biophysics from Johns Hopkins University, and she obtained her MD from the University of Arkansas. During medical school, she participated in a one-year fellowship at the Clinical Research Training Program of the National Institutes of Health. She completed her pediatric residency training at Yale New Haven Hospital, and she is interested in clinical and translational research pertaining to neonatal interventions and outcomes.
Dr. Wojcik received her undergraduate degree from Princeton University, where she majored in Chemistry with a certificate in French Language and Literature. She received her MD from Harvard Medical School, and completed her residency training at the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics where she worked on a quality improvement project involving newborn screening. She is interested in genetics and metabolism, and is pursuing a combined fellowship in Neonatology and Medical Genetics. She is interested in applying emerging technologies to genetic studies.
Dr. Carroll graduated summa cum laude from Aquinas College with a triple major in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Biology, and was awarded the Outstanding Senior Award in all three subjects (in addition to Physics). She received her MD from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and went on to complete her pediatric residency at the University of California, San Diego. Her research work to date includes publications with Dr. John Kattwinkel on pulmonary compliance in an artificial lung model, with Dr. Evan Snyder on stem cell Biology, and on treatment interventions in a mouse anthrax model. Dr. Carroll is pursuing laboratory research in stem cell Biology under the mentorship of Drs. Paul Lerou and Benjamin Raby.
Dr. Kunz graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Harvard University. She received her MD from Washington University School of Medicine, and she completed her residency in Pediatrics at the University of Washington. Between college and medical school, Dr. Kunz helped to develop and run a national multi-center study that addressed predictors of severity of pediatric bronchiolitis. She also published a meta-analysis that addressed whether primary fascial closure or delayed closure with silo is a superior method for closure of gastroschisis defects. Dr. Kunz has an interest in ethics and served on the Washington University IRB. Perhaps equally important for fellow conferences, she loves to bake and share her creations with the fellowship group. Dr. Kunz is pursuing work in the area of health services research, she is a fellow in the Harvard-wide Pediatric Health Services Fellowship, and she is concurrently pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Health. Her project on the effect of perinatal referral network structure on transport decisions and neonatal outcomes is mentored by Dr. John Zupancic.
Dr. Matute received his MD from the Universidad de Antioquia in Colombia, where he earned multiple honor scholarships and was one of the top students at the state and national levels in his medicine qualifying examinations. Following medical school, he completed a three-year research fellowship at the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics, during which time he played the leading role in identifying a new genetic subgroup of chronic granulomatous disease. Dr. Matute pursued his residency in the Boston Combined Residency Program in Pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. During fellowship, he is studying intestinal inflammation under Dr. Richard Blumberg’s mentorship and through his participation in the Pediatric Scientist Development Program (PSDP).
Dr. Montenegro graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development, and went on to obtain his MD from Tufts University School of Medicine. Following completion of his pediatric residency at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, he worked as a staff pediatrician at Travis Air Force Base and as a pediatric hospitalist in Fairfield/Vallejo, California. He holds a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, he recently completed the San Francisco Marathon, and he is in the process of learning Korean. Dr. Montenegro is pursuing clinical research that examines treatment strategies for apnea of prematurity under the mentorship of Dr. Larry Rhein.
Dr. Ruoss received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Florida State University, where she was on the Seminoles Varsity Diving Team. She completed her MD at Florida State University College of Medicine and her pediatric residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she was Chief Resident. She completed clinical research on PDA therapy, post-renal transplant vitamin D insufficiency, and outpatient developmental screening. Dr. Ruoss' research, conducted under the mentorship of Dr. John Kheir, is focused on laboratory oriented translational research that evaluates noninvasive modalities to examine tissue oxygenation in neonates.
Dr. Walsh is an MB BCh graduate of Trinity College, University of Dublin. He completed a combined clinical and research fellowship at University College Cork, and received his PhD in 2013. His PhD proposal, which examined biomarkers of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy, was the first successful pediatric application to the competitive Molecular Medicine Ireland Clinician Scientist Fellowship Program. Dr. Walsh is expanding his electrophysiological monitoring research to include aEEG/EEG monitoring of the premature newborn under the mentorship of Dr. Terrie Inder.
