Children from around the world come to the Medulloblastoma Program at Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center for treatment of these rare, invasive tumors. Our specialists have the expertise to accurately diagnose medulloblastomas, which are often confused with other similar types of brain tumors. Aided by neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiation oncologists and radiologists, our program’s neuro-oncologists provide comprehensive treatment plans that meet needs of each individual patient.
Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s is an integrated pediatric hematology and oncology partnership between Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital. We offer, in one specialized program, the full spectrum of services that are needed for diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care of even the rarest and hard-to-treat conditions.
Children treated through the Medulloblastoma Program—one of the most highly funded brain tumor centers in the United States—have access to the most advanced medulloblastoma treatments available, including clinical trials. Using the unique fingerprint of these tumors, our scientists found they could group medulloblastomas into specific subtypes, giving them the opportunity to take a personalized approach to treatment. Based on this knowledge, clinical trials are currently underway to investigate specific molecularly targeted therapies for two of these subtypes.
