Principal Investigator: Jonah Essers, MD

Department: Gastroenterology

Trial Description: This multi-center study aims to identify molecular markers in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in order to stratify patients by risk of developing complicated or severe disease. A secondary aim is to create a repository of anonymous stool, blood, and intestinal biopsy samples for use in future projects investigating IBD pathogenesis.

Study procedures: Participants will be asked to provide blood, stool, and, when applicable, intestinal biopsy samples during a regularly scheduled visit with their gastroenterologist, or during a medically indicated colonoscopy. These samples will be de-identified (i.e. made anonymous) and combined with similar samples from across the country for analysis.

Recruitment Info: Children and adults from the ages of 3 years to 16 years who have been diagnosed with or are suspected to have IBD. Recruitment must happen within 30 days of diagnosis.
