Our Mission

The mission of the Division of Developmental Medicine is to improve the lives of infants, children, and adolescents who face developmental and behavioral challenges and to support their families throughout their child’s life span. Our goal is to create models of collaborative care that integrate world class clinical service, cutting edge research, and innovative training programs. This will lead to better diagnostic tools and treatments, improved quality of life, and ultimately cures for developmental and behavioral disorders.

We are excited to announce Dr. Nicole Baumer and Dr. David Stein as the Down Syndrome Program's new Co-Directors. Dr. Emily Jean Davidson will continue to see patients in clinic as she assumes her new role as Director of Prenatal Services.

The new leadership structure reflects the program's exponential growth and new developments. The Down Syndrome Program will also be expanding research collaborations with the Translational Neuroscience Center and the Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience.

TriVox: Collaborating Online to Improve Children's Healthcare

Through philanthropic support the Developmental Medicine Center was able to create an online system where parents and teachers can communicate with doctors to improve care for children who need ongoing treatment for issues such as ADHD, autism, depression, and asthma. Take a look at the video below to learn how this new integrated clinical information sharing system (TriVox--formally known as ICISS), is helping to improve communication between parents, doctors, and teachers in order to provide BCH patients with the best possible care.

Congratulations to our Division Chief, Dr. Leonard Rappaport, who was recently honored by the Massachusetts Advocates for Children for his work diagnosing and treating Autism Spectrum Disorders. We are so proud to have Dr. Rappaport as a part of our team!

We are also happy to announce that Dr. Emily Davidson, of our Down syndrome program, has received the 2014 David S. Weiner Award to support “Yoga for Well-being at Boston Children’s Hospital: A Pilot Program.” With yoga and meditation being increasingly recognized as contributing to overall well-being for both adults and children, Dr. Davidson hopes to develop these tools into valuable options to support patients and families with comfort, self-care, and wellness.
