Division of Allergy and Immunology Basic research

The Research Laboratories of the Division of Allergy/Immunology at Boston Children's Hospital are located in the Karp Family Research Building. The labs are staffed by eight full-time research faculty along with more than 20 post-doctoral fellows, technicians, graduate students and administrators. We operate our own flow cytometer as well as a transgenic animal facility capable of generating transgenic and "knockout" mice.

The Division has a long track record of cutting edge research in allergic and immunological mechanisms and is recognized world-wide for work on IgE regulation, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome and CD40/CD40L function.

Ongoing studies are supported by National Institutes of Health grants in excess of $3.5 million annually.

In addition to nine R01's, three Program Project sub-grants, an institutional NRSA T32 training grant and other individual research grants, the Division runs an NIAID Asthma and Allergic Diseases Research Center (AADRC) program project entitled "Molecular Basis of Allergic and Immunologic Disease" with Dr. Raif Geha as principle investigator.

Recently, the Division has been awarded $10 million by NIH to direct a national consortium or researchers investigating the effects of allergy on immune response to the small pox vaccine. Our work is also supported by philanthropy from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
