Division of Allergy and Immunology Rounds and Conferences

Daily rounds are individually conducted by the attending of the month and focus both on patient care and teaching of basic clinical concepts. In addition, the following conference schedule is provided:

  • Pre-clinic conference: Wednesday mornings. The fellow covering the Rheumatology service presents hospitalized patients for discussion, followed by other interesting cases from the in-patient or out-patient services. Relevant imaging studies, copies of journal articles, and other pertinent material are incorporated.

  • Rheumatology/Radiology: Twice monthly the Boston Children's Hospital bone and joint radiologist joins the conference and discusses imaging studies from the clinical or teaching files.

  • Rheumatology/Nephrology: Once each month the Director of Clinical Nephrology joins the conference for an interdisciplinary discussion of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis and other illnesses common to the two services.

  • Pediatric Rheumatology Journal Club: Approximately 20 times per year fellows and staff meet to discuss current literature. Topics range from the basic sciences to clinical therapeutics, and experts from around the Harvard Medical area join the discussion when appropriate.

  • The Schlager Family Lecture: One day a year, the family of a child with Juvenile Dermatomyositis has endowed an annual lecture concerning that illness. The Schlager Family Lecturer joins the Rheumatology service for a day of clinical discussions and case conferences, and then speaks at the Boston Children's Hospital Grand Rounds. Previous invitees have included Drs. Paul Plotz and Lauren Pachman.
