The Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine recognizes the importance of community involvement and the promotion of goodness in the greater-Boston area.  Through a variety of volunteer initiatives, both Department-wide and on an individual-basis, staff members have worked to improve the quality of life for residents of Massachusetts, New England, and beyond.

The department provides each staff member, and their family and friends, the opportunity to volunteer.  Volunteering builds a sense of community among the staff as they work towards a common goal.

Our goal has been to provide a catered dinner each month for approximately 150 homeless women at Rosie's Place. Rosie's Place serves over 90,000 healthy and delicious meals a year and relies on volunteer groups.

Last year we reached our 2015 fundraising goal of $4,200.  As of June 2016, we have raised over $2,300 from bake sales and fundraisers. This money is used to cover the cost of providing food and supplies to cater a monthly meal at Rosie's Place.  We will be volunteering and sponsoring a catered meal each month in 2016.

In 2015:

1,099 Women and children received meals from our volunteers.

392    Volunteer hours were spent at Rosie's Place.

117    Staff members and their families (from all divisions and levels) joined together.

                                      70      Volunteers donated baked goods.

Rosie's Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Their mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. (Taken from: www.rosiesplace.org

We are grateful to have been ranked #1 on U.S. News & World Report's list of the best children's hospitals in the nation for the third year in a row, an honor we could not have achieved without the patients and families who inspire us to do our very best for them. Thanks to you, Boston Children's is a place where we can write the greatest children's stories ever told.”
