While no two families whose lives are touched by childhood cancer or blood disease are the same, every parent wants the very best care for his or her child. You’ve come to the right place.

Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center, an integrated pediatric hematology and oncology program through Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children’s Hospital, provides—in one specialized program—all the services of both a leading cancer and blood disease center and a leading pediatric hospital.

Our pediatric clinical and nursing specialists and all of our staff are passionate about meeting the unique needs of young patients, their parents, siblings and other family members. Our scientists work tirelessly to understand the causes of cancer and blood diseases and to develop better treatments. Equally important, we ensure that patients, families and community physicians are part of our comprehensive care team.

And while we’re known for our science-driven approach, our doctors never forget that your child is a child—not just a patient. We specialize in innovative, family-centered care. From the moment of diagnosis through long-term follow-up, you’ll work with a team of compassionate professionals who are committed to your child’s health and your family’s well-being.

Our expertise

Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center offers an unrivaled breadth of treatment options for children and young adults with cancer and blood disorders - from standard protocols and advanced therapies to clinical trials. Patients also benefit from our vast pediatric subspecialty resources – neurologists, orthopedists, diagnostic imaging specialists, pathologists – that allow us to provide truly comprehensive care. Learn about the many standard and advanced treatment options available to our patients.

  • Blood Transfusions - We perform thousands each year and we are one of few centers to also treat iron overload, the leading side effect of chronic blood transfusions.

  • Chemotherapy - We offer our patients advances in chemotherapy that may allow for more targeted and less intense dosages, as well as outpatient options that reduce hospital stays.

  • Cancer Survivor Services - Two clinics within the Perini Family Survivors' Center at Dana-Farber are designed to specifically help childhood-cancer survivors and pediatric brain-tumor survivors. The survivor clinics help survivors of cancer access clinical, support, and educational resources.

  • Diagnostic Imaging - We use the latest diagnostic imaging technologies, state-of-the-art scanning equipment and expert staff to diagnose and aid in the treatment of children and young adults with cancer and blood disorders.

  • Genetic Testing – A genetic test can explain why a child or young adult developed cancer and can help to predict whether he/she is at risk for other cancers.

  • Innovative Therapies - Through ongoing clinical trials, we are increasing the effectiveness and reducing the physical impact of cancer and blood disorder treatment through like vaccine therapy, immunotherapy and gene therapy.

  • Interventional Radiology - Our interventional radiologists are pioneering the adoption of interventional techniques for the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cancer. Working alongside our surgical oncologists, we are continuously expanding the role interventional radiology plays in our treatment plans, so children experience less risk, less pain, and a quicker recovery.

  • Fertility Preservation - For many patients receiving cancer treatment, decrease or loss of reproductive function is temporary. But some patients do not regain this function. Before the start of patient therapy, thought must be given to whether a child’s fertility is likely to be impacted by treatment.

  • MIBG Therapy - We are the first hospital in New England to offer MIBG therapy to treat neuroblastoma, and currently one of only a handful of hospitals in the country to provide this therapy.

  • Palliative Care - Our staff of compassionate and experienced pediatric palliative care specialists includes clinicians and other healthcare professionals with expertise in palliative care, symptom management, complementary medicine, and speech-language pathology.

  • Pathology - With one of the largest pathology services of its kind in the world, we can respond quickly and effectively to patient needs, from diagnosis and treatment to survivorship.

  • Psychosocial Services - Our pediatric psychosocial oncology team includes social workers, psychologists, resource specialists, and a special educator, all of whom have special expertise in the social, emotional, and psychological aspects of caring for children with cancer.

  • Radiation Therapy - We use the latest technologies available to eradicate childhood cancers with  radiation therapy while sparing normal, healthy tissue

  • Stem Cell Transplant - We perform over 90 autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplants a year to treat a range of cancerous and non-cancerous conditions in children.

  • Surgery - Our surgery department offers patients world-class oncologic surgeons, access to state-of-the-art facilities and a dedicated and comprehensive pediatric anesthesiology department for pre and postoperative care.
