MLK Observance Program

Each January, Boston Children's Hospital honors the memory of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by holding the MLK Observance Program. Scholars are invited to speak about Dr. King’s legacy as a source of inspiration. In addition to the presentation, the program includes musical selections, performances by adolescents or children, prayers offered by members of the Department of Pastoral Care, and other staff.

Black History Month

Black History Month Celebration takes a different and innovative form each year. In years past there have been historical exhibits, art installations, and keynote addresses by healthcare luminaries. Additionally, each year’s program includes the presentation of our Black Achievers Awards.

Past Honorees have included:

  • Dr. Emery N. Brown, Professor at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
  • Evelynn M. Hammonds, Professor of the History of Science and of African and African American Studies at Harvard University.
  • Theresa Perry, Professor in the Departments of Africana Studies and Education at Simmons College and Director of the Simmons College/Beacon Press Race, Education and Democracy Lecture and Book Series.

Asian New Year and Heritage Celebration

Boston Children’s is continually working to embrace the changing demographics of our city, our staff, and our patients. Each year we celebrate the Asian New Year and support community events that take place in conjunction with Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month. We are also striving to develop a multilingual workforce to provide the most supportive atmosphere possible for our increasingly diverse patient families.

Latino Heritage Month

From September 15 to October 15 we celebrate the rich culture, achievements, and contributions of our Latin American community through music, dance, and food. Boston Children’s also honors the accomplishments of our exemplary Latino and Latina employees.

Veteran’s Day

The Veterans Committee was formed to assist with the celebration for Veterans Day at Boston Children’s Hospital. The group comprises employees who are veterans or family members of veterans. The main focus is the celebration and is evolving to a group that supports the hiring and integration of veterans into our community.

  • 100% Talent Seal
We are grateful to have been ranked #1 on U.S. News & World Report's list of the best children's hospitals in the nation for the third year in a row, an honor we could not have achieved without the patients and families who inspire us to do our very best for them. Thanks to you, Boston Children's is a place where we can write the greatest children's stories ever told.”
