Friedhelm Hildebrandt, MD

Dr. Friedhelm Hildebrandt, a distinguished clinician and HHMI investigator, has recently joined the Boston Children's Hospital staff as the Warren Grupe Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of Nephrology. He replaces Dr. William Harmon, who has recently stepped down from his position as division chief after a long and distinguished career. Dr. Hildebrandt did his clinical training in general pediatrics and pediatric nephrology at Freiburg University Children's Hospital, and did postdoctoral research with Peter Aronson and Peter Igarashi at Yale. He came to the US and Michigan in 2001. In addition to his clinical and teaching responsibilities, Dr. Hildebrandt is an Investigator in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research focuses on identifying novel genes mutated in kidney diseases of children. He has received multiple awards for his research including the E. Mead Johnson Award for Pediatric Research from the Society for Pediatric Research, the highest research award given in pediatrics.
