The two-week Advocacy Rotation is a mandatory experience for Urban Health and Advocacy Track interns. Based at Boston Medical Center, this two-week block focuses on screening for and addressing social determinants of health, building familiarity with resources in Boston to address social determinants, and exploring careers in advocacy at the local, national and global levels. The general structure includes patient advocacy sessions with Medical Legal Partnership training, skills training in media and legislative advocacy, a community tour, and lectures on global health opportunities. In addition, residents do additional sessions at their continuity clinics in order to practice new advocacy skills and enhance comfort at these clinical sites early in the year. Some residents continue their project as part of their second continuity project or during their Academic Development Block.
