Flower Benefiting the Community
kids The BCRP is actively engaged in the Boston community and committed to providing outstanding care to Boston's children. Both institutions are located near large urban areas with many families living at or below the poverty level. In many ways our institutions become community hospitals for residents from Roxbury, Dorchester and Mission Hill. The majority of children who live in Boston receive their primary health care from one of our institutions. Boston Medical Center is the largest provider of uncompensated care (Free Care) in Massachusetts and Children's Hospital's Primary Care Center (CHPCC) is the largest provider of pediatric primary care to children in the city, with 11,000 patients, 65% from inner city neighborhoods.

Each institution's commitment to the community is highlighted by the numerous programs they have developed to support and benefit the needs of families. Community experiences are a key component of residency training. We are committed to engaging residents with community partners who provide services for children at both institutions. We are also committed to training residents to become effective patient advocates. They improve the health of their patients through improving the their patients' environments and ensuring their access to the highest quality health services. Community experiences are a critical and integral element of the Continuity Clinic, Child Development Rotation, the Adolescent Rotation, and the two week Primary Care Rotation. In addition, many of the residents elect to spend their Career Development Block addressing topics in Community Health and Advocacy.
