Although there is no formal research requirement, many residents do research, particularly clinical research during their training. Children's Hospital has a federally funded General Clinical Research Center (GCRC), and outstanding Clinical Research Program Core Services, with biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and other personnel to aid in experimental design. Faculty members are also eager to help and many serve as mentors for research projects. The Career Development Block provides a time to do small projects or conclude larger ones. Both the Department of Medicine at Children's Hospital, and the hospital sponsor Research Days where residents and fellows can present their work. Though not all resident research is published, much of it is, and often it is of high quality. Some examples from the past 5 years follow (resident names are in bold):
