Chief, Division of Emergency Medicine, Children's Hospital Boston
Richard Bachur, M.D. is a pediatric emergency physician who serves as an active staff physician in our 60,000 annual-visit emergency department. Dr. Bachur is best known for his role as a clinical educator. Beyond his bedside teaching, he is the former fellowship director for the largest PEM fellowship in the country based at CHB. His national prominence as an educator is reflected through his role on the Sub-board of Pediatric Emergency Medicine for the American Board of Pediatrics and as an editor for Pediatrics. His academic interests include the development of clinical decision rules and diagnostic tests for patients presenting with fever and, more recently, for patients presenting with possible appendicitis. Dr. Bachur did his pediatric residency at Children's Hospital Boston after receiving his medical degree from UCLA. Post-residency, he did his pediatric emergency medicine fellowship training here under the guidance of Gary Fleisher, M.D.
