Audiogram
Programs that perform this test
 Diagnostic Audiology Program
The object of audiometry is to plot an audiogram, or a chart of the weakest intensity of sound which the child can detect at various frequencies. Although the human ear can detect frequencies from 20 to 20,000 Hz (cycles per second), hearing threshold sensitivity usually is measured only for the frequencies 250-8,000 Hz, spanning the range of frequencies needed to hear the sounds of speech. An audiogram showing normal hearing is shown below, followed by an audiogram showing ranges of hearing loss.
