Treatment options
- antibiotics by mouth
- pain medications
- removal of the decay and placement of a filling (temporary or permanent)
- tooth extraction
- draining of an abscess, if present
- root canal - a procedure that involves the removal of the damaged nerve and tissue from inside the tooth.
If an infection is severe, your child may need to be treated in a hospital and receive antibiotics through an intravenous (IV) catheter.
