White Blood Cell (WBC) Disorders
White blood cells are the components of blood that help the body fight infection. Non-malignant white blood cell disorders include:
Low white blood cell count and neutropenia (low levels of neutrophils in the blood). Examples include:
benign neutropenia of childhood
familial neutropenia
autoimmune neutropenia
Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome
Kostmann syndrome (severe congenital neutropenia)
toxic effects of some prescription medications
High white blood cell count
White blood cells that do not function properly, leading to risk of infection. Examples include:
chronic granulomatous disease (CGD)
leukocyte adhesion deficiency
myeloperoxidasae deficiency
Chediak Higashi syndrome
