Latino Heritage Month

National Latino Heritage Month celebrates the culture and traditions of U.S. residents who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Carribbean.

Children's celebrates National Latino Heritage Month every year by hosting a variety of events.

2007 Latino Heritage Month Events
Last year's Latino Heritage Month events included:

  • Salsa cruise along Boston Harbor.
  • Latin American dishes served in the Cafe throughout the month.
  • Mango Blue - A local Latin jazz group, entertained listeners in the Cafe.
  • Community Fair - Local agencies focused on serving the the Latino community presented information about the services they provide to Latino families.
  • Traditional dances of Latin America - A local children's dance group performed in the Patient Entertainment Center.
  • Awards Ceremony - The annual lecture and awards ceremony, which is open to the whole hospital community included Jarrett Barrios, former senator of Massachusetts and current president of the Blue Cross Blue Shield foundation as the keynote speaker. During the ceremony, three Children's Latino achievers were presented with Latino achiever awards by the Latino Heritage committee.
The celebration also included:
  • A Latino Health Forum with Keynote speaker Joseph Betancourt, MD, MPH, Senior Scientist, Institute for Health Policy
