Comprehensive needs assessment strategy
Every three years, the hospital conducts a comprehensive "audit" to review community resources, assets and challenges and develop an action plan based on the results. The most recent assessment was conducted and completed during 2009.
Children's engaged Health Resources in Action (HRiA) to help conduct this community assessment with the goal to identify the met and unmet health needs of children and families in Massachusetts and specifically in Children's four priority neighborhoods in Boston- Roxbury, Mission Hill, Fenway and Jamaica Plain.
To gather information and assess community needs and concerns, Children's completed the following:
- reviewed existing public health data on children's health issues
- conducted interviews with 29 community leaders and stakeholders and 10 focus groups with a total of 91 parents and youth
- assessed best practices, existing programs and services to identify gaps
