2012 Award Winner: Francie Mandel, LICSW, SW-III
Helping transgender youth live happier lives

This year's winner—Francie Mandel, LICSW, SW-III, social worker with the Gender Management Service (GeMS) Program at Boston Children's Hospital—certainly lives up to that standard. Since 2006, GeMS has been committed to the principle "that all children deserve to grow into confident and happy individuals who are able to take their rightful place in society," and Mandel has personally evaluated 320 youth in the past three years alone. It's a mission constantly complicated by widespread misunderstanding and confusion about the conditions the program treats and the population they serve. Read more here

William L. Boyan Award

2011 Award Winner: Sociedad Latina
Children's Hospital Boston's first Boyan Award

On November 14, 2011, Boston Children's Hospital awarded the first annual William L. Boyan Award for Excellence in Community Health to Sociedad Latina. For more than 40 years, Sociedad Latina has served Latino youth and the community of Boston, pioneering new and innovative solutions to end destructive cycles of poverty, health disparities and lack of opportunity in our community. Community Partnership Fund

Through the Community Partnerships Fund (CPF), formally known as the Community Child Health Fund, Boston Children's Hospital seeks to support community-based programs that improve the health and well-being of children and families (primarily in the Fenway, Mission Hill, Jamaica Plain and Roxbury neighborhoods), as well as community-based organizations that are working to make those neighborhoods and Boston a better place to live, work and play.
