Jonathan A. Finkelstein, MD, MPH, is a general pediatrician and institutional leader in safety and quality at Boston Children’s Hospital. As the Senior Vice President and Chief Safety & Quality Officer, he is responsible for overseeing patient safety and quality improvement across the institution.

Finkelstein received his MD at the University of Pennsylvania and completed his pediatric training here at Boston Children’s. His professional activities have focused on the link between the quality of clinical care for children and the health of the population overall, bringing together classic research paradigms with quality measurement and improvement methods. He has studied changing patterns of antibiotic use for children and then tested community-based approaches to promoting their appropriate use in primary care practice. Finkelstein has also helped to train a generation of researchers focused on health care delivery.

He is a Professor of Pediatrics and of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School and holds the Donald M. Berwick, MD, Chair in Pediatric Quality and Outcomes at Boston Children’s Hospital.
