Chief Real Estate Officer, Vice President for Real Estate Planning and Development

Charles Weinstein is the Chief Real Estate Officer and Vice President for Real Estate Planning and Development at Boston Children's Hospital. Charles has responsibility for the strategic planning and execution of the hospital’s capital budget, which averages $250M annually and encompasses the expansion of the hospital’s inpatient facilities in the Longwood Medical Area, five ambulatory satellite locations and medical office and support space throughout the Boston region, as well as their extensive NIH-funded research laboratory facilities.

Since 2004, when he joined Boston Children’s (from his previous position at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD), Charles has been primarily responsible for overseeing the dramatic growth of the hospital’s diverse medical facilities, expanding from 2.4M square feet to now more than 5.5M square feet of owned or leased space (a 135% increase in the hospital’s infrastructure), and managing nearly 1M square feet of third party leases.

A real estate developer within Baltimore, Annapolis, Pensacola and now Boston, Charles was instrumental in the design and rebirth of Baltimore’s “Inner Harbor” as Director of Design and Construction, and has worked on a wide array of projects, such as the National Aquarium, Hyatt Regency Hotel, Harborplace, the Cast Iron Building, and the Baltimore Convention Center, along with the creation of several upscale, residential, waterfront communities. He has garnered numerous national and local AIA design awards for his clinical and research laboratory projects and Historic Landmarks Preservation awards for his work in Baltimore, MD and Brookline, Mass.

Charles holds a BA in Ancient History from Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Liberal Arts from Johns Hopkins University and a Juris Doctor degree from University of Maryland School of Law. In addition to holding a Real Estate Broker’s License in Maryland, he has been an active member of the Maryland and Federal Bar since 1970.

We are grateful to have been ranked #1 on U.S. News & World Report's list of the best children's hospitals in the nation for the third year in a row, an honor we could not have achieved without the patients and families who inspire us to do our very best for them. Thanks to you, Boston Children's is a place where we can write the greatest children's stories ever told.”
